The South Waikato Indoor Pools are set to undergo a $17 million infrastructure upgrade, a redevelopment to ensure the facility remains fit-for-purpose and operationally sustainable for the long term. Without these critical upgrades, the community risked the closure of the facility due to aging infrastructure and compliance challenges.
Key infrastructure improvements include renewals of the HVAC and electrical systems, pool water plant, seismic strengthening, roofing and the building envelope including a new insulated vapour barrier, the installation of specialized non-slip surfacing across all wet areas, the construction of modernized, accessible changing facilities to accommodate families, individuals with disabilities, and elderly patrons, as well as the integration of a new splash pad, a sauna, and a plunge pool to enhance the facility’s recreational and wellness offerings.
Additional upgrades include the creation of an additional of a multi-purpose community room, available for event and private hire, alongside a comprehensive exterior refurbishment, featuring an upgraded outdoor play area and enhanced landscaping to revitalize the facility’s external environment.

Neuflow is project managing the pool upgrade, and we'll update this page as milestones happen.
The contract was awarded to Downey Construction following a public tender process and an ECI (early contractor involvement) with physical works beginning in March 2025.
