The Result

As a result, Neuflow Projects were able to ensure the new chemical facility was commissioned within compliance regulations and timeframes, within the project budget and without compromising existing water treatment plant processes.  This chemical facility was brought online and operational to meet the daily chemical requirements for the treatment plant while keeping the existing operation online 24/7 throughout the entire project.  It was a delicate balance of integrating the new facility into the existing plant process.

The new facility is also capable of supplying the necessary treatment chemicals for the future 40MLD process upgrade project which is expecting to be completed in 2024.

“I want to say a big thank you to you for your approach to managing this project as there has been an awesome level of engagement and opportunities for the team to have input into the project, which is appreciated not only by myself but also by the team.”

Hamilton City Council

The Project

Hamilton City Council is responsible for the treatment, distribution and management of Hamilton’s water supply.  Raw water is drawn from the Waikato River and into Hamilton’s only water treatment plant for drinking water, where it is treated to provide a high standard of drinking water.

Due to the existing chemical storage and transfer facility not being able to meet the increasing level of compliance (seismic standards) as well as being able to supply the necessary treatment chemicals to the upgraded treatment plant, a new dedicated chemical storage and treatment facility was delivered.

Similarly to the Pukete 3 Wastewater Treatment Plant project (“Pukete”), Neuflow Projects took over the project at early stages of construction which posed a challenge.  After reviewing the health of the project, it was identified that a significant amount of outstanding information requests associated with the design had not been resolved.  Another challenge was that the contractors that were used to construct the new pieces of infrastructure, didn’t possess the understanding of the full water treatment plant process.

Our Approach

Neuflow Projects used the significant water treatment plant operational and construction knowledge as well as the experience from the Pukete project to form a strong relationship with the Construction contractor, Council operations team as well as industry partners to mitigate the risk and resolve the issues together.

There had to be a balance of information requests vs construction deadlines, so it was super important for us to use our industry knowledge, established relationships with compliance regulators, and compliance and certification assessors, understand the equipment, and oversight the construction and commissioning stages, to ensure that the project not only progressed but in such a manner that delivered the best possible results for all parties.
